White House: Migrants to sanctuary cities not a top choice

The relevant agencies rejected the idea, saying it would be costly, that Congress had not allocated any money to cover the expense, that it would make it hard to later locate and round up migrants for hearings or deportation, and that it might ultimately encourage more immigrants to come to the U.S. The U.S. now houses thousands of migrants at the border, but is running out of beds and instead is releasing new arrivals into the U.S. on their promise to appear at asylum hearings that might not occur for two years. Many of these locations have more resources to help immigrants make their legal cases to stay in the United States than smaller cities, with some of the nation's biggest immigration advocacy groups based in places like San Francisco, New York City and Chicago. "The president likes the idea and Democrats have said they want these individuals into their communities so let's see if it works and everybody gets a win out of it". "Again, this is not the ideal situation".

Last week Trump revived ideas such as closing the border and busing detained migrants to America's "sanctuary" cities where local government resists co-operating with immigration crackdowns.

But the plan had already been eschewed twice.

The comments come after CNN reported senior administration officials said the president told Mr. McAleenan, who has been named acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, he "would pardon him if he ever went to jail for denying US entry to migrants".

Ilhan Omar, a Democratic lawmaker from Minnesota, has been at the center of an escalating row following a speech she made about Islamophobia in which she was accused by conservatives of downplaying the deadliest attacks on USA soil by characterizing the event as "some people did something".

The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University announced this week that an analysis found that immigrants in sanctuary cities such as NY and Los Angeles are 20% less likely to be arrested out in the community than in cities without such policies.

Leading Democrats criticized Trump, with some accusing him of trying to incite violence against Omar, after the president retweeted a video on Friday that was edited to imply that the freshman lawmaker was being dismissive of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Julian Assange arrested after Ecuador withdraws political asylum
Assange has always insisted that the Swedish case was simply a cover for him to be handed over to USA justice officials. After losing an appeal, he took refuge in Ecuador's embassy in June 2012 to avoid being extradited.

"That's the main job of the President, to see that the laws are faithfully executed", Nadler said. But I think these raise very, very complicated legal issues. We relish it. It is the basis of our economic and cultural success.

The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., questioned the legality of the proposal.

Whether or not the IRS has to release President Donald Trump's tax returns remains "far from clear", according to at least one tax policy expert.

She was also asked by Stephanopolous if the moving of undocumented immigrants to sanctuary cities could "encourage" more people to try and enter the country illegally, which Sanders responded by saying that the president's "plan" was to "stop the flow of illegal immigration coming into our country".

"Generally, there are strong presumptions of Congress' investigations, but that doesn't mean it's conclusive if they just say they need information", he continued.

"Certainly the president is wishing no ill will, certainly not violence towards anyone", Sanders told ABC News' "This Week" show.
