Moise Kean Incident Speaks Volumes of State of Racism in Global Soccer

Moise Kean Juventus 2018-19

Leonardo Bonucci's weird attempt to pin blame on his own teammate, 19-year-old Moise Kean, after he was on the end of racist abuse from Cagliari fans has sparked outrage and reaction from many in the world of football.

Kean, a 19-year-old Italian whose parents are from Ivory Coast, plays for Italy's national team and Juventus, the most popular football club in the country.

Kean stood next to the post, his arms spread wide, after netting in Juve's 2-0 win.

Cagliari skipper Luca Ceppitelli appealed directly to the home fans behind the goal for the offensive chants to stop.

There was a delay of around three minutes.

An announcement over the stadium speaker warned fans that the game could be suspended if the chanting persisted.

In most papers, the story only got a second wind once prominent football figures began showing their support for Kean and criticised Bonucci's comments.

Kick It Out also called for stricter punishments for racist chanting in the wake of the abuse of Kean.

UEFA subsequently charged Montenegro, who face a partial stadium closure following a spectacle the organisation's president Aleksander Ceferin described as a "disaster", and Sterling urged strong punishments after the match.

Bonucci claimed the young Italian global was partially to blame while Allegri seemed to agree that he "shouldn't have celebrated in that way".

Chicago prosecutor defends decision to drop Smollett charges
Foxx told the Sun-Times the relative expressed concerns over leaked information that media outlets attributed to "police sources". The city of Chicago is seeking $130,000 for money expended on the investigation in Jussie Smollett's attack case.

Man City cruise back to top
This is the moment all players want to live. " Liverpool and Man City have done incredible so far so deserve the credit". Fulham defender Joe Bryan even helped City with its second goal in the 27th.

The incident shines a spotlight on the blight of racist incidents to have marred Italian football matches in recent months.

"You need great intelligence to deal with these situations and should not go to provoke people".

"As always in life, there are idiots who do stupid things and ruin it for everyone else".

"I think it's deeply troubling when you see a young player having to endure what was thrown at him", said Roberts. "We have cameras, we identify them and not one-year ban or two, just give them a lifetime ban. The problem is, they don't really want to".

Jason Roberts, the former Premier League striker who is CONCACAF director of development, said he was shocked at the response of some of Kean's team-mates.

"Kean knows that when he scores a goal, he should celebrate that with his teammates".

"There were racist shouts after the goal", Bonucci acknowledged when speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the game.

Shortly after the goal, Juve's French midfielder Blaise Matuidi appeared to threaten to walk off in a bid to protest against the abuse his teammate faced. I think the blame is 50-50, because Moise shouldn't have done that and the Curva (Cagliari's "ultra" fans) should not have reacted that way.

"Saying that, we know that we have to be an example and we'll look forwards, because we all have to grow, us players too, also in these things".
