Pakistan, India say shot down each other's warplanes

The Inside Story Of ‘Surgical Strikes 2.0

After the violation of its global boundary and airspace by Indian fighter jets over Balakot area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) retaliated and shot down two Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets that entered its airspace on Wednesday morning. "If you want peace then let us talk". In a media briefing in New Delhi, foreign ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar said a pilot was "missing in action".

"After PAF decided on targets, two Indian jets entered Pakistani airspace". And his ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has been at pains to point out the prime minister's "strong and decisive leadership". Referring to India's air strikes on Tuesday, he said: "I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a centerpiece of the BJP's election campaign".

"On the one hand we have gained consensus on the United Nations led counterterrorism mechanism, while alongside we have also discussed the India proposed Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) mechanism should also be soon finalised and adopted", she said. One fell into Pakistani-held Kashmir, while the second crashed on the other side, he said.

Pakistan's CAA said that all global and domestic flights from the country's major airports - including Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Sialkot airports - had been suspended for an indefinite period.

"My name is Wing Commander Abhinandan and my service number is 27981", said a man on video. "The Pakistani aircraft was seen by ground forces falling from the sky on the Pakistan side".

"We are happy our pilot is being released", said Air Vice Marshal RGK Kapoor, at a joint news conference of India's three armed forces on Thursday evening. Ghafoor, in turn, denied a Pakistani jet had been lost.

Meantime, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said, "Today, Pakistan Air Force undertook strikes across Line of Control from within Pakistani airspace".

"Terrorism is a threat to the humanity that is why not only for our three countries, we also need a global strategy". But it seems like Pakistan has given a response.

"I also encouraged both ministers to prioritize direct communication and avoid further military activity", he said.

At the meeting all three ministers stressed that those committing, orchestrating, inciting or supporting terrorist acts must be held accountable and brought to justice in accordance with existing worldwide commitments on countering terrorism, including the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the Financial Action Task Force standards.

In the statement, the ministers called on the worldwide community to strengthen UN-led global counter-terrorism cooperation by fully implementing the relevant UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

"India should not carry any further violence in Pakistan because its continuation will affect regional security also the continuation of such conflict will cost a lot for India", Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said in a statement.

He said China for its part is playing a constructive role as a "mutual friend". Tensions have been running high since at least 40 Indian paramilitary police died in a February 14 suicide vehicle bombing by Pakistan-based militants in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Pakistani troops on the ground captured an Indian pilot, he later said, after earlier saying it captured two.
