Manchester United ready for 'tough' and 'enjoyable' top-four fight, says Solskjær

Anthony Martial and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United continue their unbeaten run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after seeing past Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The club's refusal to sanction a move for the England global deepened divisions between Mourinho and the board, the fallout that ended with the manager's sacking in December as the team struggled.

United eased off after taking the lead and invited some Leicester pressure, although a wayward header from Jonny Evans and a dipping Pereira strike were the best openings they could muster before the break.

But that sequence was ended on Tuesday in a 2-2 home league draw with Burnley, when United's defensive problems were exposed before a late fightback rescued a point.

Solskjaer claimed that despite dropping two points, the result was beneficial for the squad's mentality after a run of eight wins on the trot. Still, he did well to keep the clean sheet.

A sixth consecutive away league game without a win sees Arsenal slip down to sixth behind Manchester United.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher compared Sanchez's struggles at United to those of Fernando Torres when he joined Chelsea, and Neville responded by saying that the 29-year-old has stopped doing the things that made him so clinical for Arsenal.

Mourinho was also interested in Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng, but United's board were concerned about his injury record.

Solskjaer again chose to leave Romelu Lukaku on the substitutes' bench, with Rashford preferred as his central forward.

- Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first game in charge of Man Utd on December 22, Paul Pogba has had a hand in more Premier League goals than any other player (11 - 6 goals, 5 assists). "It is a big shame and big disappointment after this game", he said. They start to drop in and they start to go into areas where it is easy to pick the ball up and do the easy thing. "It will be a challenge". He now looks a completely different player to the one who's development halted under Jose Mourinho.

Solskjaer joined United from Molde officially under the proviso he would return to the Norwegian club at the end of the season.
