USA officials are meeting with representatives of the Chinese government this week to try broker an elusive trade agreement and end the prolonged tariff war between the two economic giants.

A 10-count indictment in Washington state accused the company of stealing trade secrets from T-Mobile USA Inc. and offering bonuses to employees who succeeded in getting technology from rivals.

News of the charges comes just as the White House is making plans for a team of high-level economic advisers to meet a delegation from China later this week to talk trade between the two countries.

"The charges unsealed today clearly allege that Huawei intentionally conspired to steal the intellectual property of an American company in an attempt to undermine the free and fair global marketplace", FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement. Engadget has contacted Huawei for comment.

Prosecutors said that Huawei concealed its relationship with Skycom Tech Co.

The U.S. Department of Justice is announcing a "China-related law enforcement action" this afternoon that involves criminal charges.

Meng misled U.S. banks into believing the two companies were separate, according to the Justice Department.

Ms Meng, the daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, was arrested in Canada previous year over alleged violations of United States sanctions in Iran. Huawei and Skycom are charged with bank fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud, wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and conspiracy to violate IEEPA, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The U.S.is asking that the Canadian authorities extradite Meng.

These US charges come the day after Canada fired its ambassador to China, days after he publicly said the US extradition request for Ms Meng was flawed. Huawei engineers allegedly violated confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements by taking pictures of Tappy, taking measurements of parts of the robot and stealing a piece of it.
