Barr Vows To Let Mueller Finish His Russia Work - And Promises 'Transparency'

Trump Attorney General Nominee William Barr Says He Won't Interfere With Robert Mueller Investigation

"I will not be bullied into doing anything I think is wrong by anybody whether it be editorial boards or Congress or the president", he said.

"My goal will be to provide as much transparency as I can consistent with the law", he said. He insisted that Trump never sought any promises, assurances or commitments before selecting him for the job and said he had never asked him to fire Mueller or interfere with the investigation. "I said Bob is a straight shooter and should be dealt with as such".

Democrats have anxious that Trump may try to quash Mueller's findings when he concludes his work.

Barr, who previously led the Justice Department during the first Bush administration, has come under fire for his past commentary on the Mueller probe and Trump's firing of James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

Earlier this year, Barr reportedly sent an "unsolicited memo" to the Justice Department, in which he spoke out against the probe. Russian Federation has denied USA intelligence agencies' findings that it interfered in the 2016 election.

Barr also said "it is vitally important" that Mueller be allowed to complete his investigation and that Congress and the public should learn the results. Acknowledging that he was "in the dark about many facts", Barr repudiated Mueller's obstruction of justice theory as "fatally misconceived" and "premised on a novel and legally unsupportable reading of the law".

The special counsel is required to report his findings confidentially to the Justice Department. "The big question in my mind is will he leave Mueller alone", Senator Dianne Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said Monday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Attorney general nominee William Barr met with senators including Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, last week.

Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec has said Barr wrote the memo on his own initiative and relying only on publicly available information. He said there were other instances in which he had given advice to the Justice Department, such as cautioning against a prosecution of Democratic Senator Robert Menendez.

Michy Batshuayi to return to Chelsea from loan at Valencia
Everton have joined the race for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi , who has returned to Stamford Bridge after his loan move to Valencia was cut short.

Barr said in his statement a sense of public service compelled him to have his name put forth after some initial concerns.

Much like his predecessor Jeff Sessions, Barr has a vicious anti-LGBTQ history, even suggesting that equality for LGBTQ Americans has "led to America's decline".

He said he would consult ethics officials on whether he would need to recuse himself because of the memo, but made clear the final decision would be his.

Mueller has secured indictments against or guilty pleas from 33 people and three Russian companies, including former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

Barr also said it was "very important" that Congress and the public be informed of what Mueller investigated and concluded.

Sen Kamala Harris, D-Calif., according to a top aide, is also going to want to know whether he'd reverse some of Sessions' moves on voting rights, immigration, and reproductive rights, and whether he supports Sessions' zero tolerance immigration policy?

He also pledged "zero tolerance" for hate crimes, saying "we can only survive and thrive as nation if we are mutually tolerant of each other's differences - whether they be differences based on race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or political thinking".
