Trump’s weekend: new Russian Federation questions, shutdown irritants

The US and Russian leaders opened an historic summit in Helsinki with Donald Trump promising an

The Post report followed an earlier story by The New York Times that said the FBI had opened a counterintelligence investigation into Trump in 2017 after he fired then-Director James Comey.

Following president Trump's firing of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, a group of senior Federal Bureau of Investigation officials considered the possibility that the dismissal was executed "at the behest of" the Russian government, according to Congressional testimony obtained by CNN.

Trump, asked in an interview with Fox News late Saturday, "Are you now or have you ever worked for Russian Federation", responded: "I think that's the most insulting thing I've ever been asked".

"I think it's the most insulting thing I have ever been asked", Trump said.

In one instance, following a meeting Trump had with Putin in Hamburg, Germany, in 2017 that former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was also present for, a White House adviser and a senior State Department official were seeking additional information from Trump's interpreter that was more than the information provided in a readout from Tillerson.

Amid two new reports about President Donald Trump's behavior toward Russian Federation and its leader, journalist Carl Bernstein - whose reporting on Watergate helped precipitate the resignation of President Richard Nixon - said Sunday the special counsel investigating Trump will find he "helped Putin destabilize the United States and interfere in the [2016] election".

"I think it's the most insulting thing I've ever been asked", Trump told Jeanine Pirro, a personal friend. "And if you read the article, you'd see that they found absolutely nothing".

Led coalition says Syria withdrawal has begun
They also did not say what part of Syria it came from, though it is expected the drawdown would begin in the country's north. A US military official spoke Friday of the withdrawal process, but declined to comment on specific timetables or movements.

Missing from Engel's statement, however, was the fact that after two years of investigations by both US Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the FBI, there is still no actual evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation to win the election, despite "Russiagate" faithfuls being convinced that a silver bullet is on the way.

But the White House, and Trump himself, disagree.

Trump also objected to a report in The Washington Post that said he went to extraordinary lengths to hide details of his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin even from high-ranking officials in his own administration. "I can not imagine the audacity and the poor judgement in. saying that were going to investigate the president of the United States.as to whether he is somehow in league with Russian Federation".

"It's been many months since Helsinki, and we still don't know what Putin and Trump talked about", Engel said, referencing Trump's bilateral meeting with the Russian strongman previous year and the subsequent press conference, during which Trump appeared to accept Putin's denial of election meddling over the assessment of American intelligence agencies.

In the inquiry, counterintelligence investigators sought to evaluate whether Trump was a potential threat to national security. As the senator from IL said, "It's within his power to hold these investigations, and he should".

Citing current and former US officials, the paper said that on at least one occasion, in Hamburg in 2017, Trump took away his interpreter's notes following talks and instructed that person not to discuss what had transpired with other officials.

Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion.
