Kevin Hart May Return as Oscars Host Thanks to Ellen Degeneres

Kevin Hart on Thursday

The hour-long interview will air Friday, Jan. 4.

"If he comes out vociferously apologizing, then everybody deserves a second chance", she said.

"That's an attack to end me", he said. According to DeGeneres, the Academy is interested, telling her, "Whatever we can do, we would be thrilled".

DeGeneres said that she spoke to the Academy and that they were onboard and felt the situation was "mishandled".

"This whole ellen/kevin hart thing is a flawless example of how privilege and constant praise distorts a person's reality so much that they perceive any criticism, however valid, to be an attack on their entire livelihood", added another.

"I think she's speaking for herself and a lot of times when you speak and you're a latino, you're this, you're that, people get mad because they think you're representing", guest Ana Navarro said this morning. Be happy. Do what you want to do.

Eight minutes later, Morgan tweeted a follow-up post, saying: "Don't get me wrong, I absolutely believe @KevinHart4real should host the Oscars-everyone should be allowed to evolve their views, and he clearly has".

Actor and comedian Kevin Hart says he is reconsidering whether to host the Academy Awards.

The motion picture Academy has not named a replacement host for its February 24 awards show.

As highlighted by The Hollywood Reporter, DeGeneres's defense of Hart has prompted backlash from LGBT activists, including some who appear to be (former) fans, who are unwilling to forgive Hart and now blame Ellen for being "in his corner". He later apologized to the LGBTQ community and voluntarily stepped down as host.

"What we're going to get to see onstage with you hosting the Oscars is sophistication, class, hilarity, and you growing as a person", DeGeneres said. "You can't let them destroy you and they can't destroy you because you have too much talent". You've already expressed that it's...not realizing how unsafe those words are, not realizing how many kids are killed for being gay or beaten up every day.

Hart could theoretically return to the Oscars at any time and told DeGeneres he will "evaluate" their conversation.

"I called them (the Academy)". You have grown, you have apologized... "Don't let those people win", she added.

The Oscars will air Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8/7c on ABC. This is stuff I've addressed, I've talked about this.

Night School star Kevin Hart is reportedly still being considered as the potential Oscars host next month, with bosses said to be leaving the door open if he wants the job after apologising for his past controversial tweets.
