Alexa can now make Skype calls

Amazon Alexa devices did not have the support for Skype calling till now, but the latest news is that Skype is available on Alexa-enabled devices and the users can connect hands-free with friends and family just by voice gestures.

Amazon has combined with Microsoft's Skype to allow calls to be made on all its devices that use Alexa. You can also make High-fidelity Skype video calls form the Echo Show and Echo Sport to Skype on Computers, Tablets or mobiles.

To incentivize linking your account, Microsoft is offering users 100 free minutes a month for two months after linking your account. This adds to the users' ease as they can make a call without touching their smartphones. You could already make calls between Alexa devices, including phones with the Alexa app. Well, it's later in the year, and the new functionality is rolling out starting today. Then sign in using the Microsoft credentials on Skype.

Customers are being offered 100 free minutes of calls per month to link their Skype account to their Alexa account

To set up Skype calling, fire up the Alexa app on your phone, go to Settings, then Communication, then Skype.

Once installed you can ask Alexa what's in the news, and Alexa will read you an excerpt from the most recent stories, which are regularly updated throughout the day on the RailAdvent website. At last count, Skype had around 300 million monthly active users - a fairly substantial number.
