Wages surge as US adds a robust 250000 jobs in October

"The October jobs report added more positive news to the soaring Trump economy".

Nonfarm payrolls increased by 250,000, rebounding after the weakest month of 2018, while the unemployment rate held steady at 3.7%, its lowest level since 1969.

Employment in professional and business services, which has been Arkansas' strongest sector, continued to trend up nationally with 35,000 job adds in October and 516,000 for the year. October marked the first time since the recession ended more than nine years ago that the closely watched pay gauge rose better than 3% from a year earlier. Neil Wilson, analyst at markets.com, said: "This reaffirms the view that the tighter labour market is starting to feed through to higher wages and will further strengthen the case for the Federal Reserve to maintain the current path of hikes".

Among the rosy employment statistics in Friday's monthly hiring report, one especially shines: Worker wages in the US are finally taking off. There are a record 7.14 million open jobs.

Transportation and warehousing saw gains of 25,000, while leisure and hospitality recovered from September's hurricane slowdown with 42,000 positions. But the pace of job growth has picked up again, with job gains in every major sector in October.

The Chautauqua County unemployment rate has decreased more than a point in the previous year.

According to the Labor Department, healthcare added 36,000 jobs, manufacturing added 32,000 jobs and construction added 30,000 jobs. This is the fastest rate of wage growth since April 2009 and further increases are likely in the months ahead. That could lower the government's employment count when it's released Friday. The continued hiring and wage increases also reflect a tax-cut boost and reinforce expectations that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates for a fourth time this year in December, though such an outlook may further unsettle investors who just sent USA stocks to their worst month since 2011.

If employees are pleased with their higher paychecks, financial markets tend to get nervous when wages climb too much since they're believed to lead to inflation.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast payrolls would increase by 190,000 jobs in October and the unemployment rate would be unchanged at 3.7 percent. The government said the US has not created as many manufacturing jobs in October since 1998. But for now, inflation remains right around the Federal Reserve's target of 2 percent. Americans increased their spending by 4 percent in the July-September quarter, the biggest acceleration in almost four years.

The October jobs report offers "another reminder of the labor market's persistent strength even as the stock market has swerved down in recent weeks", the Times said.

That, in part, reflects that inflation was higher in those periods, but also that worker productivity was growing more rapidly. And in January, the minimum wage will increase in 18 states. "A bad idea", he said, claiming that pay restrictions hurts small businesses. "There is nothing you can't love in here", said Dan North, chief economist at the credit insurance company Euler Hermes North America.

Jobs growth in the private sector was particularly strong in September, according to ADP, the US's largest payroll processor.

Politico noted that Trump, in his campaigning for Republicans, has focused more on immigration and the Central American caravan than the economy. It doesn't mean companies have to pass on higher wage costs to consumers. "They're being more rational".
