Trump vows to terminate birthright citizenship

United States President Donald Trump has threatened to sign an executive order to deny citizenship at birth to children of non-citizens and unauthorised immigrants.

The 14th Amendment, ratified in 1868, grants citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States. And it has to end.

US President Donald Trump lashed out at House Speaker Paul Ryan over Ryan's comments on birthright citizenship, saying he "should be focusing on holding the Majority".

The wording of the 14th amendment has always been disputed if it guarantees citizenship to everyone born on US soil.

President Donald Trump said he will seek to limit the right of citizenship for certain children born in the United States in a new bid to dramatically reshape immigration policies that was likely to spark a congressional battle.

Trump told the interviewer, "You can definitely do it [remove the right] with an act of Congress". "The 14th Amendment's citizenship guarantee is clear".

"This is also a way for Trump to look like he's actually delivering on a lot of his immigration promises which, particularly on the issues of the wall, have not come to fruition", said Dr. Neal Allen, a political scientist at Wichita State University.

Paul Pogba: Man Utd midfielder takes 26-step penalty against Everton
When the game is balanced in the first 20-25 minutes, the penalty starts to put them ahead in the match and more comfortable. United held on for the points though, in what felt like a significant win. "We played well in some moments of the game".

Immigration hardliners have argued that the 14th Amendment was only meant to provide citizenship to children born in the U.S. to lawful permanent residents - not to unauthorized immigrants or those on temporary visas. A longtime proponent of comprehensive immigration reform, Graham would likely want to tie any effort to end birthright citizenship to major changes in immigration policy that could benefit illegal immigrants already living in-country, perhaps with a proposed "path to citizenship", or a long-term partial amnesty agreement.

Mr. Trump said that the effort to end this practice was in the process.

They say the 14th Amendment was written to address the rights of former slaves, and it should apply only to children born in the United States to lawful permanent residents.

Trump, seeking to energize his supporters and help Republicans keep control of Congress, has stoked anxiety about a caravan of Central American migrants making its way to the U.S. -Mexico border.

Birthright citizenship, as it is referred to in the USA, is enshrined by the 14th amendment to the United States constitution. Many legal scholars would argue such a change requires a constitutional amendment. In fact, as Axios points out, over 30 countries have the rule in place.

But political pundits have highlighted past shocks - such as Trump's 2016 presidential election win, and Britain's vote to leave the European Union earlier that year - as evidence that he could still emerge victorious.
