Showdown between Kavanaugh, accuser scheduled for next week

Cruz says Democrats 'playing games' but agrees that Kavanaugh's accuser should testify before confirmation vote

Kavanaugh denies it, but the accuser came back with an offer to testify publicly to Congress. Republicans defending their House and Senate majorities are wary of a public hearing, which would play out in the crosswinds of the #MeToo movement and the November 6 elections.

"This woman should not be insulted, and she should not be ignored", White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said during an interview on Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends".

Sen. Kamala Harris, a top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee now in the throes of the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation process, says she believes the woman accusing Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct when the two were high school students in the 1980's.

Some senators meanwhile called for both Kavanaugh and Ford to address the matter before lawmakers.

Ford and Kavanaugh both agreed to testify under oath before the committee. She says Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed, and groped her, and held his hand over her mouth to muffle her screams.

"I think he's on track, very much on track", Trump said.

"Judge Kavanaugh is one of the finest people that I've ever known" Trump told reporters at the White House Monday. An outstanding judge. Respected by everybody.

The statements allow for the possibility that Judiciary Committee would receive dueling testimony about the alleged incident decades ago, which could threaten Trump's attempt to install a conservative in the place of frequent swing vote Justice Anthony Kennedy, potentially altering the balance of the court for a generation. The committee, chaired by Sen. Democrats refused to participate, saying the seriousness of the charges merited a full FBI investigation.

Liberal senators sitting on the Senate Judiciary Committee are using this to call for a postponement of the final decision on Kavanaugh's nomination.

With Mr Kavanaugh's once-safe nomination for a lifetime job on the top U.S. court now appearing in jeopardy, the conservative federal appeals court judge had meetings at the White House and issued a fresh denial calling the assault allegation "completely false". Burgess said she added her name to the letter because she knows Ford's story "will be scrutinized, and she will be accused of lying".

Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh's Alleged Sexual Assault Victim Speaks Out
Ford took a polygraph test in early August, then made a decision to remain anonymous, despite the results affirming her honesty. She says that she was wearing a one-piece swimsuit and Kavanaugh was drunkenly trying to pull it off of her against her will.

"Because this never happened, I had no idea who was making this accusation until she identified herself yesterday". But now we know her name, know more details of what she would say, and know that she is willing to come forward and tell her story.

The attorneys, Bob Schiff, Kristine Lucius, Jeff Berman, and Lisa Graves, claim in a piece for TIME that Kavanaugh was not telling the truth at his confirmation hearing, or at his previous confirmation hearings in 2004 and 2006, when it came to his role in the nominations of judges when he worked for the White House Counsel's office.

A potential "no" vote from Flake would complicate the judge's prospects because Republicans control the committee by just 11-10. Wilkinson has not returned calls from CNN seeking comment.

He denies he was even at the 1982 high school party in question where his accuser, now a California psychology professor, says he tried to rape her as his friend watched. He told the Weekly Standard on Sunday that he has "no recollection" of it.

The accusation, made privately in July, took on new weight over the weekend when Ford went on the record with the Washington Post.

Debra Katz, a lawyer for Ford, shared her client's willingness to testify during a round of television interviews on Monday morning.

The president seems resigned to senators delaying what had been an expected Thursday vote by the judicial committee after the allegation from a professor at a California university threw Kavanaugh's confirmation into some doubt.

US Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has said he would be willing to "refute" a sexual assault allegation before a Senate panel.

"I thought he might inadvertently kill me", Ford said in the story. Dianne Feinstein raised questions about Kavanaugh just days after his committee hearing concluded. Corker, however, does not sit on the panel. Jeff Flake of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of SC, said they wanted to hear more from Ford.

The Washington Post reports that Ford has not spoken with Kavanaugh since the party and she told no one at the time about what had happened.
