Trump says Apple can avoid tariffs by shifting production to US

"Start building new plants now".

Trump said on Friday he is considering another $267 billion of tariffs on China, which analysts said will affect virtually every category of consumer goods, to retaliate against what he calls unfair trade practices.

The yuan sunk almost 9 percent against the USA dollar from April through July, according to China's Wind Information data.

"Our concern with these tariffs is that the U.S. will be hardest hit, and that will result in lower USA growth and competitiveness and higher prices for United States consumers", Apple said in its letter.

"Exciting!" President Trump said, advising the tech giant over Twitter on Saturday as his motorcade drove from the White House to his Virginia golf club.

Trump has already imposed 25% tariffs on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods, mostly industrial machinery and intermediate electronics parts, including semiconductors.

In a letter addressed to the Office of U.S. Trade Representative, the Cupertino company said: "It is hard to see how tariffs that hurt USA companies and United States consumers will advance the government's objectives with respect to China's technology policies".

Marco Rubio to Alex Jones of InfoWars: ‘Don’t touch me’
And he made quite the statement to Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. "Hey, don't touch me again, man ". Rubio eventually ended the gaggle to return to committee, leaving the reporters to "talk to this clown".

Apple also said that computer parts for its USA operations would be hit by the tariffs.

Trump's comments come after Apple expressed dissatisfaction over his administration's China tariffs. The tariffs would pressure China to stop that behaviour, the administration has said.

The suggestion that Apple could easily move all of its manufacturing to the US doesn't quite match up with the realities of the consumer electronics industry, which depends on China's significantly lower wages as well as the country's massive manufacturing infrastructure.

Many Apple accessories, such as mice, keyboards, chargers and even leather covers for iPhones and iPads would face tariffs, Apple said. It makes many of its products for the USA market in China, and it also sells gadgets including the iPhone in China, making them a potential target for Chinese retaliation against the Trump tariffs.

China's exports to the United States rose 13.2 percent in August from a year earlier, accelerating from an 11.2 percent increase in July, the Journal reported based on its calculations from customs data.

"The burden of the proposed tariffs will fall much more heavily on the United States than on China", Apple said in its letter on Friday.
