Danish women wear burkas in protest over ban

Denmark enforces burqa ban amid protests

In accordance with the law, the 28-year-old was asked by police to either remove her veil or leave the public space.

"She chose the latter", Mr Borchersen said.

When the ban went into effect, dozens of women came out in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, to protest it.

The ban has been ridiculed for its vague language - and for outlawing all facial coverings in public - despite its backers clearly stating its real target is the Islamic face veil.

Should the woman refuse to pay the 1,000 kroner fine, the case will be sent on to the courts. Under the new law, police will be allowed to order people to remove face veils in public areas.

"During the fight her niqab came off, but by the time we arrived she had put it back on again", police officer David Borchersen told the Ritzau news agency. They're investigating CCTV footage to see if the other woman had deliberately tried to rip off the niqab.

Friday's incident is reported to have taken place at a shopping centre in Horsholm, 25km (15 miles) north of Copenhagen.

I'll be ready, I can't wait", Williams said in an interview posted Friday on the International Space Station Facebook page. He has a master's degree in physics and is a US Navy test pilot who has served in more than 20 combat missions.

Denmark brought in a burqa ban on August 1, forbidding anything covering a person's entire face and the niqab, which only shows the eyes.

The new burka law means that all forms of clothing that cover the face are now banned in public spaces, unless they serve a creditable goal.

Rights group Amnesty International condemned the ban as a discriminatory violation of women's rights that would have a particularly negative effect on Muslim women.

Repeat offenders of the ban could be fined up to 10,000 kroner (£930).

The full-face veil is a hot-button issue across Europe.

The country's much-debated "Burqa Ban" has prohibited full-body burqas, as well the niqab.
