Spy photos show North Korea is building new missiles

"Work on the new missile likely began after the summit", one source told The Diplomat, referring to the June 12 meeting between U.S. President Donald J. Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore.

The Post says new evidence, including satellite photographs, indicate the missiles are liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missiles and are being constructed at a factory that produced North Korea's first such missile capable of reaching the United States.

The newspaper, citing unidentified officials familiar with intelligence reporting, said USA spy agencies were seeing signs of the construction at a large research facility in Sanumdong, on the outskirts of Pyongyang. The Post says "the new intelligence does not suggest an expansion of North Korea's capabilities but shows that work on advanced weapons is continuing".

When President Donald Trump declared after a summit with Kim Jong-un in Singapore that North Korea was "no long a Nuclear Threat", no informed person believed him.

Aside from the Sanumdong plant work, North Korea continues to make nuclear material at another plant, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed last week.

It is possible, the official said, that any new missiles the North is building may be for further testing of such vehicles and of more accurate guidance systems.

Unnamed US officials told the Washington Post that spy satellites had spotted continuing activity at a site that has produced ballistic missiles.

Bad week for social media as Twitter's stocks plunge
But some say Twitter's unique position as a real-time network that allows users to follow news and events will eventually pay off. Twitter is nosediving after it said monthly users declined in the second quarter and could fall further over the next few months.

U.S. spy agencies have found evidence that North Korea is building ballistic missiles, it was claimed last night.

North Korea's intention was to deceive the U.S.by misconstruing the number of warheads as well as research facilities they have, while claiming they have fully denuclearized, the Post reported, citing intelligence.

This is the same facility where the country first produced intercontinental ballistic missiles that could reach the US, the newspaper noted.

The North Koreans "never agreed to give up their nuclear program", said Ken Gause, a North Korea expert at the Center for Naval Analysis.

"In Singapore I never heard the words: we will unilaterally disarm", Narang said.

Still, Joel Wit, a former State Department negotiator and founder of North Korea-watching website 38 North, said that the North's moves were, historically, par for the course. "They are negotiating for recognition of their nuclear weapons. What they're offering is: They keep the bomb, but they stop talking about it".

That was the case with U.S. negotiations with the Soviet Union during the Cold War, and more recently with Iran, "which continued to build more centrifuges capable of producing nuclear material even as it negotiated with the United States to limit those capabilities", Wit said.
