CBS Investigating Allegations Against CEO Leslie Moonves After He Admits to Misconduct

Douglas says that she was sacked from her manager and agent after the incident: "What happened to me was a sexual assault, and then I was sacked for not participating". "What it feels like to have someone hold you down-you can't breathe, you can't move".

'What happened to me was a sexual assault, and then I was sacked for not participating, ' Douglas told writer Ronan Farrow.

In a statement, CBS said it was looking into the allegations and would "take appropriate action".

Writer Janet Jones said Moonves tried to forcibly kiss her in a meeting in 1985. "It was very fast", Jones told Farrow. Douglas said a week later she was sacked and Moonves told her she wouldn't "get a f-king dime" and would 'never work at this network again'. Her efforts were unsuccessful as Moonves allegedly verbally harrassed her and subsequently fired her from the show.

Douglas told the magazine that she rebuffed his advances. "It was this well-thought-out thing". I will ruin your career.

So he went into the business side and got a job with the producer of "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour". No one will hire you. "Do you understand what I'm saying to you?'"

The New Yorker said 30 current or former employees complained that such behaviour extended from Moonves to important parts of the corporation, including CBS News and its flagship investigative program 60 Minutes.

In May, another article he wrote forced the swift resignation of NY state attorney general Eric Schneiderman, who was accused of physically assaulting four women. "Those were mistakes, and I regret them immensely", Moonves said in a statement obtained by AFP.

The exposé is by Ronan Farrow, who this year won a Pulitzer Prize for detailing assault accusations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

"The malicious insinuation that Ms. Redstone is somehow behind the allegations of inappropriate personal behavior by Mr. Moonves or today's reports is false and self-serving", said a statement sent to USA TODAY by her rep, Sara Evans.

Iran military chief tells Trump: 'We're ready to stand up against you'
Americans say by a more than two-to-one margin that they'd oppose going to war against Iran, a new HuffPost/YouGov survey finds. United States officials are stepping up diplomatic efforts to pressure countries to stop importing Iranian oil.

In addition to sending "love and support" to her boss, she included Moonves' wife and another co-host on the morning talk show, Julie Chen. "He has always been a kind, decent and moral human being", she said on Twitter.

Moonves, 68, joined CBS in 1995 from Warner Bros. Additionally, more than two dozen company employees, past and present, detailed incidents of harassment, gender discrimination or retaliation at CBS, the report said. The story also describes a culture at CBS that's permissive of sexual misconduct, particularly in the CBS News division.

Mr Moonves has always been considered one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, helping steer the network broadcaster into the digital age. "The facts are on the side of these women, otherwise they wouldn't be in print here", Farrow told Erin Burnett Friday. She had worked as a story analyst for the company behind "Rain Man" and "Gorillas in the Mist" before becoming a production head for Robert Evans, who had produced "The Godfather" and "Chinatown".

Viacom shares ended up 4.5 percent at $29.35 on Friday, while CBS shares closed about 6 percent lower at $54.01, as investors speculated that the chances of a merger between the two companies had increased.

Couric told the New Yorker, which wrote a bombshell story accusing Moonves and other top executives of sexual harassment, that CBS "felt like a boys" club, where a number of talented women seemed to be marginalized and undervalued'. Subsequent reporting raised questions about the response to those allegations by managers at CBS.

For the past few months, Moonves also has been locked in a bitter battle over CBS with the Redstone family, which has controlled the company for decades. Shari Redstone is a major shareholder in both media companies, and has been seeking to combine them again.

As chairman, Moonves oversees all operations of the company, which include the CBS Television Network, premium cable service Showtime, and the Simon & Schuster publishing company.

The statement from the Independent Directors acknowledged the dispute.
