Trump on EU's $5B fine against Google: 'I told you so!'

Android May Not Remain Free After EU Fines Google $5 Billion For Antitrust Violations

US President Donald Trump on Thursday tweeted that the fine slapped on Google by the European Commission is evidence that the European Union (EU) has taken America for granted.

According to a report in tech news website CNET: "The EU frequently takes tech companies to task over issues such as taxes, antitrust issues and privacy, but Trump is interpreting this particular fine as a slight against the United States". Yes, if you type the word "idiot" on web search engine Google, it will direct you to at least five-six stories related to US President Donald Trump along with his pictures. There have been mixed reactions about the occurrence; some people are busy criticizing Google over the apparent "criminal defamation" of the President while others are laughing and trolling Trump along with members of the former group.

It is the largest antitrust fine ever levied by the European authorities on competition issues from the same company. The staggering number also has many concerned that Google will change its approach to Android, potentially removing it as a free, open-source mobile operating system. Now it seems that Android and Chrome OS may soon be replaced by Google's Fuchsia operating system that holds the potential to unite all of its devices under a single operating system umbrella and is seeing increasing investment and capital put into its eager development.

Trump appeared to be using the antitrust fine as a weapon in his ongoing trade war with the European Union. This means Google's latest services only reach a fraction of Android users.

Vestager has expected that Google will shut rivals by forcing some major phone makers which include South Korea's Samsung and China's Huawei to pre-install the search engine and Google Chrome browser.

The 4.34 billion euro penalty comes on top of a 2.42 billion euro fine ($2.8 billion) that regulators imposed on Google a year ago for favoring its shopping listings in search results. It might also impact relations between the USA and the EU.

The team Fuchsia is going to replace the Android operating system, which employs three-quarters of the smartphones in the world.

In a blog posting, CEO Sunder Pichai claimed that the Android business model enabled a wider choice of devices and different brands. An antitrust dispute in Russian Federation, for example, prompted Google to change its design to offer people a choice of search engines when they set up their phones.
