India thump England to clinch T20 series after Rohit Sharma century

Kuldeep Yadav celebrates after taking the wicket of England's Jos Buttler

Rohit Sharma backed up the heroics of pace bowler Hardik Pandya by hitting 100 not out as India clinched the T20 global series against England at Bristol yesterday.

England made a flying start after being put in to bat, Jason Roy (67) and Jos Buttler (34) sharing an opening stand of 94 in under eight overs. Man of the Series & Match Rohit brought up his century in 56 balls.

The hosts then lost wickets in quick succession and were eventually restricted them to 198/9 in 20 overs.

Pandya played a major role in Sunday's deciding match at Bristol with bat and ball taking four for 38 and scoring a rapid 33 not out that helped India get past England's 198-9 total. India had earlier, won the clash at Old Trafford but England leveled the series in Cardiff.

The sides start a three-game one-day worldwide series on Thursday before playing five Tests.

Captain Virat Kohli had earlier fallen three short of a half-century, caught by a juggling and diving Joe Root on the fine-leg boundary off David Willey.

The Indian captain began to gain in confidence as he hit another six off Plunkett before he fell victim of Jordan in the 15th over, caught and bowled by the bowler in a soft dismissal. But while the home team's slide started at this stage, India overcame the sluggish phase and marched ahead of England's respective score to consistently bring down the required rate and the pressure, if any.
