Trump Is Reportedly Sending New Pal Kim Jong Un An Awkward Gift

The talks lasted almost three hours and it was uncertain whether Pompeo would meet Kim Jong Un.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met North Korean officials in Pyongyang on Friday, hoping to "fill in" details on how to dismantle the North's nuclear program and recover the remains of U.S. troops missing from the Korean War. He will spend the night in Pyongyang, his first overnight stay in North Korea.

Despite being in the midst of starting a trade war with Canada, U.S. President Donald Trump still has time to continue cozying up to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Hoffman emphasized that a South Korean lawmaker said yesterday that, according to satellite intelligence, North Korea is eyeing a nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine. "I think we understand each other".

During the summit last month, the two leaders agreed to work together to denuclearize the Korean peninsula, with Trump vowing to end the U.S. The U.S. delegation was left waiting around for Kim Yong Chol to arrive, and there weren't enough seats at the table for the U.S. negotiators.

Ahead of the summit, Pompeo said Trump would reject anything short of "complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization". Pompeo will stay in Pyongyang for two days, according to The Chosun Ilbo, and discuss North Korea's dismantlement of a specified amount of nuclear weapons with a specified time frame.

In a tweet early Friday, Pompeo said his team "worked tirelessly to keep the conversation moving forward".

China Warns US "Opening Fire" On World With Tariff Threats
Now it is attempting to resort to an all-out trade and economic war to hold back China's normal development. He emphasised that USA tariffs on Chinese exports will hurt both Chinese and foreign firms.

"Good to have the press along for the trip", he added.

"We just wrapped our first meeting of the day", Pompeo told reporters.

Pyongyang on Friday also pushed back against recent USA criticism of the country's human rights record, in a commentary by the state-run Uriminzokkiri outlet referring to it as "provocative" and a potential "obstacle" to further negotiations.

The administration has been pushing back on reports that it is softening its demands of North Korea, with Nauert saying in a statement Thursday, "Nothing could be further from the truth. Our policy toward North Korea has not changed", Reuters quoted Nauert as telling reporters en route to Pyongyang.

He said Pompeo will be looking to get Kim to agree to a timeline for dismantling nuclear sites, with mechanisms in place to ensure they are not "double dealing". They also accused Pyongyang of trying to deceive Washington in order to extract concessions without ever giving up its nuclear program.

Many of them pointed to findings that indicate a build-up of the regime's nuclear-related facilities.
