Canada's Building Trades Unions Stands with Trudeau Government on Misguided US Tariffs

Freeland

President Donald Trump says he's delaying signing a revised version of the North American Free Trade Agreement until after the midterms in hopes of reaching a better deal.

On Sunday, Ottawa responded to the Trump administration's tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum with duties of its own against US imports.

But the NAFTA talks have been stalled for several weeks and Lopez Obrador enters the scene as tensions between Canada and the United States have intensified as the two countries have become embroiled in a trade dispute. "The tariffs imposed by Executive Order doesn't only impact Canadians, it also impacts American businesses and workers".

Quebec's dairy producers association disagreed, telling The Associated Press in an email that American overproduction is the real cause of the U.S.'s problem with Canada's dairy tariffs. Asked about the timing of an agreement, Trump said: "I want to wait until after the election".

"Everybody has the right to express themselves and how they do it, but I'm a firm believer in dialogue", said Reece Smyth, the deputy chief of the US mission in Dublin, which hasn't had an ambassador since Trump took office in January 2017. The winning candidate said he will make that proposal in a meeting Tuesday with current President Enrique Pena Nieto. I think it will be very interesting.

"Canada, you're not going to get 275 per cent for your dairy and you're going to take down all your barriers", Trump said as an example.

These 3 NBA Stars Will All Be Lakers Targets In 2019
James will join a Lakers team which has missed the playoffs for five consecutive seasons, the longest streak in franchise history. According to The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor , the Spurs have received underwhelming trade offers from the Lakers.

Lopez Obrador's opponents have suggested his election will create more tension with Washington at a time when relations are already fraught by the stalled talks on reworking Nafta and by Trump's immigration policies, including a planned wall along the US border. Do you know what happened?

A former Canadian ambassador to the U.S., who was directly involved in negotiations for the Canada-U.S. Freeland said on Friday, "We will not escalate - and we will not back down".

Trudeau has insisted the US president's complaints about Canada's trade barriers are the result of his refusal to give in to Trump's demands to do away with the country's supply-management system, which is created to protect dairy, poultry and egg producers.

It's no secret there's been tension between Canada and the USA recently.

Trump called NAFTA as "the worst deal ever" during his campaign and presidency.
