Officials Suggest World Cup Celebrations In Mexico Caused Artificial Quake

Joachim Low

Yesterday, Mexico created the sensation during its first game the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation by defeating Germany, the reigning world champion 1 - 0.

The Germans were caught napping in the first half at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium and went behind in the 35th minute as Mexico found acres of space to counter attack through the midfield.

His disjointed side looked extraordinarily vulnerable on the break even before Javier Hernandez punished them with the pass that set up Lozano to cut inside fire home.

The win gives Mexico three points and puts them in a golden spot to move on, while Germany now can't afford another slip up with South Korea and Sweden to come.

PSV forward Hirving Lozano grabbed the winning goal as Germany were beaten in the opening game of a World Cup campaign for the first time since 1982.

It could turn out to be a damaging defeat too.

"Complaining about what happened doesn't change anything, we all know that", said Neuer.

"We did not play our usual offensive and passing game", Loew said.

Controversial goal as Senegal beats Poland
The Bayern Munich striker enjoyed a phenomenal campaign with his club and was his country's top scorer in the qualifications. Poland have lost seven of their last nine World Cup matches (W2), failing to score in six of those losses.

But there's absolutely a strong case for it being this adorable abuela blessing the good hermanos pre-game.

While most of the German media has naturally concentrated on Die Nationalmannschaft's shortcomings in their first game in Russia, Lahm praised Juan Carlos Osorio's Mexico for a "very impressive" performance.

They have also not been eliminated at a World Cup group stage since 1938 when the tournament had a different and smaller format.

It wasn't natural seismic activity making the ground shake, though, but an artificial quake created entirely by celebrating Mexican fans, whose jumping elation at their team's unexpected triumph was thunderous enough to register on seismic detectors in Mexico City.

But Mexican fans in Russian Federation argue it's "normal".

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto congratulated the squad on Twitter, saying "Mexico competes and wins against the best in the world".

"Overall we had our chances but did not score". We are under pressure. "We will make it".
