Rep. Hanabusa Comments on the North Korea Agreement
- Jonathon Greene
"This person is not a wise representative for the US", he said, taking a direct shot at Mr. Trump during Tuesday's press conference in Tehran, Iranian state news outlet Fars News reported.
His statement follows a report from the New York Times, which criticized the White House for lacking a scientific advisory team.
"It is the case that we are prepared to make security assurances necessary for the North Koreans to engage in that denuclearization", stated Pompeo.
After a day filled with smiles and handshakes watched around the world, the USA "committed to provide security guarantees" to North Korea, while Pyongyang committed to "work towards" denuclearizing the Korean peninsula.
Many experts remained sceptical that Kim will ever give up his nuclear weapons, even though Trump insisted the process of denuclearisation will start "very, very quickly".
After the Central Intelligence Agency informed Congress North Korea had built a centrifuge facility, another major step in the nuclear process, Pyongyang formally withdrew from the non-proliferation agreement in January 2003.
Ahead of the summit with Kim, speculation persisted that the two sides might discuss withdrawing the US troops from the South, as Pyongyang has called for the pullout as a key signal to the end of Washington's "hostile" policy to it.
In an exclusive interview with ABC News's George Stephanopoulos and at a press briefing Trump announced that he was suspending military exercises conducted annually in South Korea by the US military. "The economy of South Korea didn't pass the North until the early '70s".
"We made a lot of progress, tremendous amount of progress", he said, referring to the recent summit.
If Mattis was aware that Trump was going to announce a suspension of military exercises, he apparently did not share that information with the South Koreans or with the military organisation most directly affected: US Forces Korea.

Lashing out over trade practices, Trump lobbed insults at his G-7 host, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Trump , a regular proponent of Fox News , had not responded to the error at the time of publishing.

Trump said the final outcome would lead either to a better agreement on NAFTA or separate trade deals with both Canada and Mexico. Trudeau, much like Macron, also attempted to take a gentler approach to Trump in the early days of Trump's presidency.
US fears of 'mystery weapon' revived by new China…
China earlier said it had looked into the case announced last month but came up with no clues about the cause of the symptoms. It is also the only USA diplomatic installation in China authorized to process immigrant visas and handle adoptions.
Col. Jennifer Lovett, a spokeswoman at the USA military command in South Korea, said the command "has received no updated guidance on execution or cessation of training exercises".
Mr Abe also said that resolving the issue of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korea would require the strong support of the United States.
Trump's comments will be questioned by many in South Korea and beyond, with some seeing in them an effort by North Korea to drive a wedge between Seoul and Washington.
Nam said Seoul welcomed the news that President Trump had "sufficiently expressed" his trust in Kim. Several of those hours were spent discussing the details of the joint "comprehensive" agreement with Kim.
"The US armed forces will in no way stop individual and collective training, the South Korean military will continue to train and prepare as they always have", he told AFP, adding that institutional knowledge from years of drills would be retained.
Trump's supporters, who relish his unconventional diplomatic style, are likely to hail the summit as a foreign policy win for the president over one of America's most bitter long-time foes even as he feuds with Washington's closest allies after leaving an economic summit in Canada in disarray over the weekend.

From 1950 to 1953 the Korean War waged on.
"Stopping the joint exercises has been a long-term goal for North Korea and China", two Asia analysts, Victor Cha and Sue Mi Terry, wrote in a summit assessment for the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
"I must have had just countless calls and letters and tweets, anything you can do - they want the remains of their sons back".
"In March, I had the privilege of attending the Aspen Institute's Congressional Program titled "Finding a Diplomatic Solution to the North Korea Crisis" at Stanford University".
