Prime Minister hit by dramatic resignation as MPs debate Brexit

After winning Tuesday's vote on changes to a future "meaningful vote" on a final agreement with Brussels in her European Union withdrawal bill, May's plans to end more than 40 years of membership in the bloc were still on track.

These were the words of a minister expecting to win the vote.

Talks will now be held between ministers and Tory MPs uneasy with the government's handling of Brexit, in the hope of reaching an agreement before the legislation is passed back to the House of Lords.

During a frantic day of discussions between ministers and Conservative backbenchers, potential rebels were eventually persuaded to back down when Solicitor General Robert Buckland told MPs that ministers were willing to "engage positively" with their concerns. Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom echoed Bercow, adding that "any threats of violence and intimidation are utterly unacceptable to the Government".

However, despite backing down, pro-Remain Tories signalled they would not be easily consoled by a compromise offered by ministers.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4 Today Programme, Conservative MP Nicky Morgan argued Theresa May's new promise to give Parliament a final say on Brexit was a clear assurance Dominic Grieve's amendment to the Brexit bill will finally be given the appropriate consideration, which has outraged Leave voters who voiced their fury on social media.

This came after a last-minute resignation by the justice minister Dr Phillip Lee, who said he could no longer look his children in the eye and vote to support the government.

She won a succession of votes on Tuesday overturning Lords amendments, including one which would have removed the date of Brexit on March 29 2019 from the text of the Bill.

G7 leaders agree to joint communique: Trudeau
U.S. trade adviser Peter Navarro , speaking on " Fox News Sunday ", reinforced that message. "Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270 percent on dairy!" the U.S. president tweeted .

"In all conscience, I can not support the Government's decision to oppose this amendment because doing so breaches such fundamental principles of human rights and Parliamentary sovereignty".

'(It's) too soon to make a decision on that, but we'll have to consider it in the months ahead'.

Due to the concessions offered, the details of which have not yet been fully revealed, two Conservative MPs - Ken Clarke and Anna Soubry - rebelled. We could end up with another rebellion when this amendment comes back to the Commons, probably next week.

The government says the changes would weaken Britain's negotiating position and is seeking to reverse them in the Commons.

Meanwhile, Tory Brexiteer Bernard Jenkin told the government he would not accept ministers agreeing to Mr Grieve's demand for the House of Commons to assume control of Brexit negotiations in the event of no deal.

In a rare alliance, senior Tory Remain and Leave MPs have urged party rebels to back Prime Minister Theresa May on the bill.

Despite depending on the votes of the 10 DUP MPs for her precarious Commons majority, there were signs of cautious optimism among ministers that they would get the numbers to see off the revolt.

She said unless there was a "meaningful vote" Parliament would be left with "the grim choice between a poor deal and exit with no deal at all".
